Electricity Problem in Tamilnadu

For the past one year or even more, the availability of Electricity in Tamilnadu has been inadequate, to put it mildly. The T.N.E.B. has been struggling to cope with the crisis without acknowledging the real situation till about Middle of 2008. Pressure Diyether (from the Industries and the Public) it had to officially accept the shortage in availability vis- A -vis demand and tried alternative measures to bridge the gap by regulating supply with interruptions, both scheduled and unscheduled. It tried the concept of weekly power holidays but without any success. it had to announce a power cut in terms of Demand and Energy for the Industries, both for H.T. and L.T. Connections from November 2008.

Besides the Cut in sanctioned Demand and Energy, the supply is switched off daily for two hours a day. In addition, the industries are prohibited from drawing power supply during the peak hours between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily. Production and Delivery of Goods and Services suffer and are inadequate. Needless to say that production planning is almost impossible, considering also the fact that labor availability is irregular.

In such a situation survival is itself a question for the businesses. New Capacities for Power Generation avudai meni menaraas, but it is feared that the growth in demand will also be enormous considering the push being given for big investments from Multinational Companies in Tamilnadu. It appears as though the present thinking in the Policy Making Bodies is to overlook the needs of the existing industries and go with wide open arms in attracting new investments promising uninterrupted power supply.
