Electricity Problem in Tamilnadu

For the past one year or even more, the availability of Electricity in Tamilnadu has been inadequate, to put it mildly. The T.N.E.B. has been struggling to cope with the crisis without acknowledging the real situation till about Middle of 2008. Pressure Diyether (from the Industries and the Public) it had to officially accept the shortage in availability vis- A -vis demand and tried alternative measures to bridge the gap by regulating supply with interruptions, both scheduled and unscheduled. It tried the concept of weekly power holidays but without any success. it had to announce a power cut in terms of Demand and Energy for the Industries, both for H.T. and L.T. Connections from November 2008.

Besides the Cut in sanctioned Demand and Energy, the supply is switched off daily for two hours a day. In addition, the industries are prohibited from drawing power supply during the peak hours between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily. Production and Delivery of Goods and Services suffer and are inadequate. Needless to say that production planning is almost impossible, considering also the fact that labor availability is irregular.

In such a situation survival is itself a question for the businesses. New Capacities for Power Generation avudai meni menaraas, but it is feared that the growth in demand will also be enormous considering the push being given for big investments from Multinational Companies in Tamilnadu. It appears as though the present thinking in the Policy Making Bodies is to overlook the needs of the existing industries and go with wide open arms in attracting new investments promising uninterrupted power supply.

Mullai periyar Dam

Mullai periyar Dam, is a masonry gravity dam over River Periyar, with a height of 155 feet and length 1200 feet and is located 3900 feet above m.s.l. on the High Ranges (Cardamom Hills) of Western Ghats in Thekkadi, Idukki District of Kerala, India. It was constructed in 1895 by the British Government, over the headwaters of the west-flowing Periyar River and its tributary Mullaiyar, to divert water eastwards to Madras Presidency area (the present-day Tamilnadu). The Periyar National Park, Thekkady is located around the Periyar reservoir formed by the backwaters of this dam. The dam is operated by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Koodangulam Nuclear Power station

Now Koodangulam Nuclear Power station is facing crisis. After an investment of Rs.15,000 crores and work of more than a decade, this nuclear power station is ready to produce 2000 MW of power within a month or two. When the production is to start in a few weeks, some of the activists along with villagers have been protesting against the nuclear power station. They have even met the Prime Minister and requested him to close down the power station. They are creating the fear among the villagers that this nuclear power station may also generate radiation and cause death, if an earthquake or Tsunami happens in future, like Japan's Fukushima.

Koodangulam and Kalpakkam are in earthquake zone No 2 with lower risk of earthquake. Nowhere in the world, earthquake zone 2 has suffered any major earthquake leading to death so far. Japan's Fukushima is in earthquake zone 5. Besides, the japan power plant belongs to generation 1, constructed 40 years back. Since Earthquake and Tsunami happened simultaneously, the power plant got affected. That power plant had the backup of only 8 hours of power supply. Hundreds of people died only because of earthquake and tsunami. As per the report, not even one person died out of radiation due to the Fukkushima Accident. A wrong propaganda is being spread in India by some vested interests against Koodangulam safety quoting Fukushima.

Koodangulam is in Earthquake zone 2, which is less prone to heavy earthquake. The Tsunamigenic plate (Sunda ARC) is located 1500 KM Southwest away from Koodangulam. Even if Tsunami orginates due to severe earthquake in that Sunda ARC region , it may not have serious impact at Koodangulam since it is not located straight to that tsunamigenic plate, it is located in a very safe place in the eastern side where it is protected by Srilanka island. Even in the 2004 Tsunami, the impact on Koodangulam was less.

since the direct impact can only hit Nagapattinam, it hit that location in 2004. It was because, 2004 Tsunami was the cause of the earthquake originated in Indonesia/Sumatra in the eastern part of the Pacific Ring of Fire – Tsunamigenic plate. Hence there is no question of Earthquake beyond 6 Ricter scale and Tsunami happening at Koodankulam site. These fears are unfounded. Even if earthquake and tsunami happens the Koodankulam is built to withstand both.

Further, the 'spent fuel', is being stored 20 feet below the earth level in a two level protected concrete structure with 1.20 meter thick walls with a gap of 6 feet and then another wall covering that. Even assuming an earthquake of Richter scale 6 happens, it may not affect the storage of the spent fuel complex. The spent fuel is not mixed with sea, as propagated. No waste or spent fuel is mixed with sea. It is only the coolant water, which does not have any radiation except the 5 degree warm temperature is released to the sea, which is well within the limits of 7 degree. The research studies conducted by 7 reputed institutions have proved that there is no threat to the marine life due to this water release.

While Japan Fukushima had only 8 hours of power supply, Koodangulam has the provision for more than 400 times of requirement of alternate power supply. Besides, we can run the power station for many number of days with diesel also in case of emergency. Now in India, all the nuclear power stations are in the process of getting upgraded to 3rd and 4th generation model.

Any nuclear power station can be built in any part of the world, only after lot of clearances. Now the rules are stringent. Government will invest such huge sums of money, only after the approval by various scientific bodies and regulatory bodies.

The fears of certain Koodangulam representatives are unfounded and not based on scientific views. They can be rest assured that this power station is very very safe.

Irrigation drawing design

First we need to make a drawing of the property to be irrigated
with all the different planting areas and as accurate dimensions as possible.
Effectively this includes the length, width and height of the different planting areas.
It's also important to mark all other objects and features in the garden,
such as the house, garage, shed, paving, pond, stream and
possibly underground cables, pipes and debris.
You can see this on the sample drawing.

The next step will be an indication of the water take off point, i.e.
whether this will be from the drinking water supply, a deepwell or open water.

There are different ways of making a drawing of your property.
One is with a sheet of graph paper where you apply a scale
and make a drawing of the property to this scale.
A very commonly used scale for a garden of 1000 m2 is 1 : 200.
This means that one centimeter on the drawing refers to 2 meters in practice,
which will allow the drawing to fit on a sheet of A4-size paper.
Click here to find a sheet which you can print.

Another possibility is to make a drawing in a drawing application such as the windows programme 'paint'
or any other drawing application for which you should be able to save
the drawing preferably as a 'pdf' file.

It is possible to have your irrigation system functioning manually or automatic.
If automatic irrigation is required, a controller and low voltage electric valves
will form part of the system. It is therefore an idea to indicate the place where
you want your irrigation controller to be located.
Keep in mind that you should occasionally adjust its settings but most of the time it will operate
without you noticing it.
A garage or a shed will be a good place to have it installed.

The tablet PC, named Aakash, will cost the government Rs 2,276. It will be given to students after subsidising the price by up to 50 percent, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said Wednesday while unveiling the 7-inch touchscreen device here.
"The price includes taxes and cost of transportation. The government will provide subsidy of 50 percent to institutes buying it. It will cost around Rs 1,100-Rs 1,200 to institutes," he said.
The government has also set an ambitious target of bringing down the cost of such device to as low as USD 10 (around Rs 500), the minister said.
"As we will scale up manufacturing capacity, the prices will fall. My target is to provide tablet for USD 10 to our children in coming years," Sibal added.
This tablet is for students and the government will start distributing at central and technical institutions. In 12th Five Year Plan, "we will provide these devices to students studying in class 9 onward up to class 12," he said.

How To Reduce Depression

This article is all about beating depression. I am a person who suffered from long bouts of depression, however after deciding to change my whole outlook on life, I now have a much happier, successful and stress-free life. I will explain how I went about achieving this new life.

As I grew older and especially when I was in my early twenties, I used to always compare my life with other people I knew, for example my friends. It seemed to me that my life was so much more of a struggle than what their's was and that most of these people had so much more going for them and so much more to look forward to than I did.

I was not happy at the hand of cards I had been dealt and would regularly be down in the dumps, feeling sorry for myself. I had a number of issues in my life which had a major impact on my self-confidence and self-esteem, which would also lead me into depression. This issues including a weight problem, a stutter, a bald patch on my head and I am quite short in height compared to the average man.

I was in a regular state of depression and found it very difficult to pull my self out of it. The stress for example of socialising when you have a stutter and trying to gain employment would take a lot out of me. My hair started to turn grey when I was only twenty-one years of age.

I was not content at always being depressed and at the age of twenty-two, I decided to attempt to change my whole life. I had to have a whole new approach and a totally different thought process, in a nutshell I needed to chill out, think in a far more positive way and learn how to de-stress.

This was not going to be easy however it was essential to do. I started to read many self-help type books and books about eradicating depression. I learnt many things such as worrying about a situation makes it even harder, not easier and that in life all you can do is to try your best, therefore whatever the outcome you can feel proud that you gave it your best shot. It is also important to remember that we only live once and that that life could come to an end tomorrow, therefore we should treat every day as if it is the last and to enjoy ourselves.

The main change I made was that I started to think and compare my life to people I was reading about in the newspapers or watching on the television instead of comparing my life to my friends for example. From learning about countries in the third world and reading about certain disasters and terrorist acts, I realised what a fool I had been and that I was actually one of the lucky ones. Ways to Make Extra Money

CashCrate – There’s some money to be made with CashCrate.com completing the free offers, but the real cash comes from the referral program. Earn extra money at CashCrate.com by taking part in daily research surveys, doing your shopping online, and referring other members to their program.

2. Waiting Tables – This is the perfect job for nights and weekends. That’s when all the big tips are made anyway. Pick the nicest place in town.

3. Bar Tending – Even better, I think, than waiting tables is tending the bar at nights in a busy bar. Typically at least $1 for every drink you serve.

4. Teaching Swimming Lessons - If you’re a good swimmer you might be able to pick up a weekend swim teacher gig at your local recreation center. Keep in mind that some places may require a special certification or that you be a lifeguard.

5. Car Valet – If you hook up with a for-hire car parking service (the type hired out for fancy neighborhood parties) you can make some nice cash tips in just a few hours at night and on the weekend, when parties are held.

6. Check Your Credit Score – One of the quickest ways to save yourself thousands of dollars is by checking your credit score and fixing errors on your credit report. The three major credit bureaus have big influence on your current interest rates (mortgage, auto, etc.) and improving your credit score could save you thousands a year in interest payments. Right now, Credit Sesame and Credit Karma provide you your credit score 100% FREE of charge (no credit card, no free-trials, no tricks, free for life).

7. Blogging – This isn’t quick money, but you can make decent money with a little luck and a few months of solid, consistent effort. Believe me, it can be tough and a bit time consuming, but it can be done. Get started with a nice domain and cheap hosting plan from the provider I use BlueHost.com. Or consider the services of a more notable provider like GoDaddy.com.

8. Write an eBook - I hesitate to put this one in here because an eBook by itself usually doesn’t make money unless you’re an excellent marketer. What a great eBook can do though is act as a sales lead to one of your other online businesses.

9. Design Web Logos – If you’re good with Photoshop and can work quick, you might could make some decent cash with this online business.

10. Re-write Poorly Written Ads - Search the ad listings at eBay.com and Craigslist.org for big items like cars. Email the seller and offer to re-write their ad for a 1% commission.
